Enjoy a stroll along the seafront on this heritage guided walk offered as part of Great Yarmouth's Heritage Open Days event.

Our new seafront walk is set between Great Yarmouth’s two piers and tells the story of over 250 years as a famous and favoured seaside resort.

Starting at the Wellington Pier your journey will take you past many fascinating buildings, telling of the many famous people who visited them.

The site of the old jetty is where Admiral Horatio Nelson arrived and departed to engage in his many sea battles. See the Royal Hotel where novelist Charles Dickens wrote David Copperfield and the site of the Bath House which, in 1759, enticed visitors to the town in hope of curing their ailments from the benefits of sea water. You will also see Shadingfield Lodge where King Edward VII, then Prince of Wales, stayed on his many visits to the town while entertaining singer Lily Langtry.

Learn of how its seafront survived the first war, and how it almost failed to survive the second! The walk concludes at the Britannia Pier, destroyed by fire no less than four times, and cut in two by a ship in a storm!
