Sea Life have teamed up with Macmillan Children’s Books to bring Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler’s The Snail and the Whale to their UK Sea Life centres.

The Snail and the Whale event will be hosted from 18th February until 26th February at Sea Life Great Yarmouth. Experience this beloved children’s book written by former Children’s Laureate Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, like never before as they follow the story around the centre through an amazing underwater world.

Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler’s The Snail and the Whale tells the story of a tiny snail who longs to see the world and hitches a lift on the tail of a whale. Together they go on an amazing journey, past icebergs and volcanoes, sharks and penguins, and the little snail feels so small in the vastness of the world. But when disaster strikes and the whale is beached in a bay, it's the tiny snail who saves the day.

“This story is a well-loved children’s classic,” said Head of Marketing for Midway UK & Eire at Merlin Entertainments, Cheska Bennett. “It’s all about an amazing journey of discovery around the world and the stunning displays we have at the centres are the perfect setting for visitors to experience this story - and maybe make some amazing discoveries of their own in the process.”

“We have some of the real sea creatures in our displays that the book’s characters meet on their journey,” said Cheska. “With their help we can reinforce the messages which are at the heart of the book, about the importance of looking after marine wildlife and that no matter how small the gesture you can still make a big difference.”

Alyx Price, Children’s Communications Director at Macmillan Children’s Books, added, "We are delighted to be partnering with Sea Life to bring Julia and Axel's classic tale of adventure and friendship to life in such a new and interactive way with children and families throughout the UK this February.”
