Norwich, Norfolk and Suffolk - nearby destinations to explore
Norfolk is the driest, sunniest county in England and boasts coast, countryside, market towns, seaside towns, the Broads and the city of Norwich. From exciting attractions such as theme parks and zoos to traditional windmills and historic houses there are more tourist attractions here than in many other counties.
Remarkably similar to Norfolk but further south and helping to form the 'East Anglia bump' seen on the map of England is Suffolk, a beautiful county of rolling countryside, market towns and lovely coast to explore.
Greater Yarmouth makes an ideal base for exploring both Norfolk and Suffolk whether by car, train, foot, boat or on your bicycle.
Just 30 minutes drive from Great Yarmouth, Norwich is the most complete Medieval city in Britain and the county capital of Norfolk. This compact city makes for a great day out and is easy to get to by road or train. A Norman Castle, two cathedrals, beautiful architecture and heritage, lovely restaurants and cafés as well as the largest permanent outdoor market in the country and some great shopping makes a visit to Norwich well worth while.
If you're driving, the colour coded park and ride system is ideal - the nearest one to Great Yarmouth is at Postwick, just off the A47. It's really easy to use and drops you off right in the city centre.
If you'd rather relax and let someone else drive, Norwich city centre is a short 15 minute walk from the railway station, with direct trains back to Great Yarmouth. The Wherry Line passes through some of the most beautiful Norfolk countryside on the trip between the two towns. There is also a direct bus service leaving regularly from Market Gates, see the X1 timetable for more information.
