Shanty Music and Singers

Shanty singers

Formally launched in 1990 this group of local lifeboat men and friends have travelled widely in the UK and Ireland supporting the incredible work of the RNLI and various lifeboat stations through funds donated from their nautical musical performances, also having appeared on the BBC's 'One Show', we welcomed the talented Sheringham Shantymen to Great Yarmouth on the Saturday of the festival only and they gave an amazing performance.

We were also delighted to have on board shanty singing trio Owd Chyvers from the Yorkshire region - performing acapella style shanties and German acapella six piece Crossjack whose traditional rustic vocals bring some old maritime working songs back to life. We also proudly welcomed back Kimber's Men, seen on BBC4 in Shanties and Sea Songs with Gareth Malone, Jigsaw and Capstan Full Strength the beer tent band, who kept things in order in Horatio's Bar.

The Plough Jockeys, father and son duo Joe and John Crowfoot, performed traditional, contemporary and original folk music with occasional appearances from ‘Mr Leggit.'

The Jolly Rogers, a recently formed band of Shanty Singers from Great Yarmouth's very own Centre 81 (a centre for people with physical disabilities who live within the borough of Great Yarmouth which offers social and leisure pursuits) also appeared.

Finally we were delighted to welcome back the Mollyhawks who entertained visitors with sea-songs and shanties, old and new.
