Burgh Castle & Belton

The countryside along the River Waveney and around Belton and Burgh Castle is dotted with many of Norfolk's famous windmills, some of which visitors can visit. These two popular villages to the south-west of Great Yarmouth play host to some of the larger holiday and touring parks in the area.

Belton has its own holiday village and friendly village pubs, perfect for a relaxing drink or meal. In the village of Burgh Castle there are holiday parks and a riverside holiday village with a yacht marina.

Just half a mile from the Burgh Castle village next to the River Waveney and overlooking Berney Arms Reach stand the imposing stone wall remains of Burgh Castle, the Roman Fort Gariannonum, built in the 3rd Century as a defence for the Saxon Shore. It was garrisoned by the Equites Stablesiani Gariannoneses, a detachment of the elite troops of the Stablesian auxiliary cavalry.

Beautiful panoramic views over Breydon Water, into which the fourth wall long since collapsed, are stunning, whatever the time of year.
