A sea of fun ahead for youngsters at Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival

Family fun is sailing into Great Yarmouth when the annual Maritime Festival docks next month.The free weekend event celebrates the town’s close connection with the sea, both now and during its rich history. As well as the visiting tall ship Kaskelot and shanty singers there is also a wealth of free entertainment for children at the heart of the busy weekend programme on South Quay over September 9 and 10.

Artists’ chance for a brush with seafaring history

Visitors to Great Yarmouth’s Maritime Festival can show off their artistic talents thanks to a new activity this year. The Ready Steady Paint Challenge will give budding painters the chance to join a masterclass with popular local artist Ernie Childs, and craft a picture with a seafaring theme.
During the event on September 9 and 10, Mr Childs will guide participants through a free 30 to 45-minute lesson of drawing and painting, with each person able to take home their artwork. Up to 20 people from school age upwards can join in, with classes at 11am, 1.30pm and 3pm on both days.

Tall ship sailing into Maritime Festival

One of the world’s largest remaining wooden tall ships is set to sail into Great Yarmouth’s South Quay.

Kaskelot, a Danish three-masted barque is the first boat confirmed for this year’s Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival on September 9th and 10th.

A rare chance to step on board a modern offshore support vessel is among the attractions at Great Yarmouth’s Maritime Festival. The stunning looking 83m-long offshore Service Operation Vessel with an airliner-shaped sleek “nose” is owned by Danish shipping company Esvagt. A dozen people at a time will be able to go on board.

The Regal Lady will sail back into Great Yarmouth in September – to the harbour where she was built in the 1930s to provide sailing fun for holidaymakers. Visitors to the Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival will once again have a chance to ride on the Regal Lady during the weekend of seafaring fun and heritage.

Movie Star ship to sail into Maritime Festival

An historic ship that doubles as movie and TV star will be centre stage at Great Yarmouth's Maritime Festival this year. The 1940s sailing ship Earl of Pembroke has figured in more than a dozen films and TV series since it was restored in 1994. They include the movie Cloud Atlas – starring Tom Hanks, Halle Berry and Hugh Grant – as well as roles in Hornblower, Treasure Island, Alice in Wonderland, Wives and Daughters, and the Count of Monte Cristo.

Maritime Festial winners set sail on the JST Lord Nelson

Winners of the Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival competition to win a place on the JST Lord Nelson’s voyage from London to Great Yarmouth, for the Maritime Festival on September 5 and 6 2015, were presented with Festival smocks today (August 24) at the Nelson Museum by Festival committee member Dona Watson.

Patrick & Miguel from France, Scheepsfolk from The Netherlands, 2 Anchors from Gloucester, Roaring Forties from Scunthorpe and Kimber’s Men and Monkey’s Fist both from Yorkshire, join the roster of live music acts for the first time at the 16th Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival on Saturday 5 September 2015 (10am to 6pm) and Sunday 6 September (10am to 5pm), www.maritime-festival.co.uk.
Shanty and folk music is performed throughout the festival on three South Quay stages.
