An artful army of crafty characters is preparing for its annual friendly invasion of a Norfolk holiday village. A hundred scarecrows will line the streets, gardens and green at Martham near Great Yarmouth during the May Bank Holiday. And this year organisers are opening up the event to scarecrow makers from outside the village for the first time – with the lure of a £100 cash top prize. Designers or businesses will be able to showcase their creations on the green to be seen on May 1st and 2nd by an estimated 10,000 visitors – three times the population of the village.

Motorists are cashing in with bargains - and boosting local businesses - under a new Park and Save scheme launched in the Greater Yarmouth area this summer. Tickets from machines across eight car parks in the borough can be used for discounts at more than 30 different businesses.
The bonuses are at attractions and eateries, but also high street services from hairdressers to butchers and dry cleaners. The scheme is an initiative by the Greater Yarmouth Tourism and Business Investment Area seeking to give visitors to the area an extra perk, and encourage them to support other traders and tourism outlets during their stay.
