Pumpkinanza half term fun
Pumpkins and fireworks will light up Great Yarmouth seafront next week (October 26) at a popular new autumn event.
People are busy creating carved pumpkins for a display and prize competition which last year attracted 70 entries when the event made its debut.
Pumpkinanza, on Wednesday October 26, also features a free fireworks display, entertainment from the Heart Roadshow, and “horrid history” storytelling.
The competition has four age categories: under-5's, 5-10 years, 11-17 years and 18-plus.
All entrants receive a specially-made stick of Pumpkinanza rock, made by Great Yarmouth based Docwra’s on Regent Road.
Overall winners in the combined under-5’s and 5-10 years and 11-17 years and 18-plus categories will each win a Haven family short break prize. Other prizes up for grabs include family passes to a range of Great Yarmouth tourist attractions.
To enter, simply carve your pumpkin, download and complete an entry form from the website www.great-yarmouth.co.uk/pumpkinananza
Entrants should take their pumpkin creations to the Sea Life Centre Gardens between 4pm and 6pm. Tea lights will be provided.
Judging is from 6pm with winners and runners-up announced live on the Heart roadshow stage shortly after 7pm, before the 7.30pm fireworks.
The “horrible histories”, with stories of pirates and punishment and tales from the Tolhouse gaoler, are being told from 4.30pm to 6.30pm by Heritage Guides dressed as historical characters.
The event is organised by Greater Yarmouth Tourism and Business Improvement Area Limited as part of its drive to attract more visitors and spending power to boost the local economy.
Pumpkin entrants are also encouraged to post their pictures on social media with the hashtag #ShareTheGreatTimes
