Heritage Open Days 2011 gave residents and visitors even more opportunities to explore the East Anglia coast with four fantastic free days of great heritage from Thursday 8 September to Sunday 11 September 2011 - on the coast!
The Borough of Greater Yarmouth teamed up with neighbouring districts North Norfolk, Waveney and Suffolk Coastal to open up a host of stunning of heritage buildings and examples of fine architecture with more than 55 buildings and tours available to heritage explorers for their enjoyment all along the coast.
Buildings not usually or rarely open to the public include HS Smoke House, the Royal Naval Hospital, the Friends Meeting House and the Masonic Royal Assembly Rooms in Great Yarmouth, the Langham Dome, Norfolk Heritage Fleet Trust and Binham Priory in North Norfolk, Anchor Smoke House, the MTB102 and a fabulous walking tour of Southwold in Waveney as well as Walpole Old Chapel and Woodbridge museum in the district of Suffolk Coastal!
Some tours and buildings were open every day over Heritage Open Days, some were only open on one day or had only a few tours with limited places and these places were booked up very quickly.
Great Yarmouth's annual Maritime Festival also ran on the Saturday and Sunday on historic South Quay and both events once again proved to be hugely popular.
