The 2012 Olympic Games

The countdown to the 2012 Olympic Games is on, and whether you are visiting London and the surrounding area from a long way away, planning to commute or thinking about escaping the capital altogether, there is no better place to be than Norfolk!

Great Yarmouth is Norfolk's premier seaside resort, just 30 minutes from Norwich by car or train and home to some beautiful coastline from Winterton-on-Sea down to Hopton-on-Sea and stunning sandy beaches. The Norfolk Broads start in the borough with the rivers Bure, Waveney, Yare and Thurne running through, providing some ideal boating locations.

We're closer than you think!

Great Yarmouth's Wherry Line takes just 30 minutes to reach Norwich Station where you can catch a direct train to the Olympic Park in Stratford. The journey time to Stratford from Norwich is under 2 hours.

You can fly direct to Norwich from Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam via KLM from all over the world. There are also direct flights from other UK airports such as Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Manchester, as well as seasonal schedules from both UK and European destinations. Great Yarmouth is only a skip and a jump from Norwich - where some great seaviews are the best way to start the day.

Great Yarmouth has a huge range of accommodation to choose from, whether you decide to get away from it all and book a 14 night holiday or enjoy a short break from cosy B&Bs and hotels to holiday cottages and appartments to static caravans and chalets on superbly equipped holiday parks on camping and caravan sites, with many signing up to the East of England Fair Price Charter for 2012.

Great Yarmouth's beaches feature in the pre-games training camp guide for beach volleyball teams - we stage our own beach volleyball classic every year with Volleyball England.

To really feel part of the 2012 Olympics action, find out how you can take part in Pledge 2012. The Pledge 2012 project aims to get at least 2012 people in Norfolk to pledge to achieve a sport or health related goal by the Olympics Opening Ceremony on 27 July 2012.

For more information on what's happening locally, including the Great Yarmouth leg of the Olympic Torch Relay which is set to hit Great Yarmouth at breakfast time on Thursday 5 July 2012, visit www.norfolkcelebratingtalent.co.uk
