Piers

Britannia Pier - Greater Yarmouth
The focal points amongst the miles of sandy beaches are the Great Yarmouth piers.

The Wellington Pier was built in 1854, only the seventh in the country. The Britannia Pier was built four years later in 1858 and has had a very eventful history to say the least. Twice it has survived being cut in two by ships caught in a gale and it has been renovated four times following major fires. Remarkably, it is still thriving today and provides excellent family entertainment.

The Jetty was first built in the Sixteenth Century for landing goods and passengers. Perhaps the most famous of all people to land on the Jetty was Admiral Lord Nelson on his return from his famous triumph at Copenhagen.
