Meeting at Row 111 House, you will experience tenement conditions, listen to an original BBC wartime broadcast and discover how Herring Girls lived and worked.
You will then explore the elaborate Merchants House, comparing its “respectable” Merchants’ quarters with those experienced in the wartime Rows. Listen out for Mr Rope’s “sea shanties” and view an amazing collection of architectural artefacts rescued from period properties after World War II bombing, including fireplaces, wall anchors and door knockers!
End your tour in the remains of a 13th Century Franciscan Friary. The cloisters would have provided an elegant and tranquil retreat in the centre of bustling Yarmouth of the 13th and 14th Centuries.
