Time and Tide, Museum of Gt Yarmouth Life

Time & Tide Museum - Great Yarmouth
This award-winning museum opened in 2004 and is located in a Grade II Victorian herring-curing factory. The museum provides a 2-3 hour visit and tells Great Yarmouth’s fascinating story from prehistoric times to the present day. its displays include fishing, wreck and rescue, seaside holidays, port and trade, the World Wars and brings to life the herring curing industry and the lives of the people who worked there. The Museum’s unique collections are interpreted using both traditional and interactive technology.

Time and Tide was a finalist in the Gulbenkian Museum of the Year Award 2005 and also a finalist in the European Museum of the Year Award 2006

Skin Deep : A History of Tattooing
The touring exhibition from the National Maritime Museum opened to the public on 16th March. Press interest has resulted in many local people being involved in a programme of recording, including film and photography. A range of local peoples’ stories has contributed to a fascinating tale of the modern day tattoo.

North Sea Diaries
Exploration in the North Sea for oil and gas began in 1962 and Great Yarmouth became the largest marine base in Europe to support the industry. This partnership exhibition with Aberdeen Maritime Museum, celebrates the lives and the work of those involved in the offshore industry at Great Yarmouth. Also featured is the artwork of Sue Jane Taylor, an artist who spent ten years creating a visual record of the lives and workplaces of Scotland’s oil workers.
