Built in 1811, this former Naval Hospital was commissioned by the Admiralty to care for the sick and wounded of the Royal Navy's North Sea Fleet in its battles with the Napoleonic French Navy.

Visit for a tour around this Grade II* listed building of historical and architectural importance. The Royal Naval Hospital was completed in 1811 and was commissioned by the Admiralty to care for the sick and wounded of the Royal Navy's North Sea Fleet in its battles with the Napoleonic French Navy.

It has also been used by the Army as a barracks and hospital, and has taken in casualties from the Battle of Waterloo and the Indian Mutiny. From 1863, the Hospital treated Royal Navy servicemen suffering from mental illness.

In 1958, it became an NHS psychiatric hospital (St Nicholas Hospital) before closure in 1993 It was sold then converted by developer Kit Martin to private mixed dwellings in 1997.

You will be taken around the site to see the original chapel building and ward space.

Access to chapel entrance is very narrow and has steps. Ward Space also has limited access due to number of stairs. On road parking only available in Queens Road. No facilities available for disabled parking. No toilet facilities and disabled access is very limited.
