Key dates as we head out of lockdown

8 March - stay at home
29 March - rule of 6 or 2 households can meet. No travel for holidays.

12 April at the earliest - self contained accommodation can open for household groups. Outdoor atractions such as zoos and theme parks can open. Outdoor hospitality, non essential shops and hair & beauty salons can open. Minimise travel.

17 May at the earliest - all accommodation to open. Indoor attractions to open such as museums, cinemas and children's lay areas. Indoor hospitality to open as well as outdoor cinemas and theatres.

21 June at the earliest - nightclubs and theatres to open. Legal limits on social distancing to be removed.

The seaside town of Great Yarmouth is uniquely located on a sandbank between the North Sea and the river Yare, with winding Broads to the north, south and west forming the start of the Broads National Park. Throughout Great Yarmouth you'll find lovely seaside towns and villages all along the coastline, surrounded by stunning Norfolk countryside, dotted with windmills and yacht sails flapping above the hedgerows. Great Yarmouth boasts a total of 15 miles of glorious golden beaches to choose from, stretching from Hopton-on-Sea in the south right up to Winterton-on-Sea in the north before you get into North Norfolk.

The beaches in Great Yarmouth form a stunning coastline with something to suit everyone, from quiet deserted beaches with sand dunes and not another soul in sight to traditional seaside family fun beaches with bouncy castles, deck chairs and donkey rides usually found at Hemsby, Great Yarmouth and Gorleston-on-Sea. Great Yarmouth's Central Beach is a glorious sandy beach between Britannia and Wellington Piers adjacent to Marine Parade and makes the ideal location for a family day at the seaside.

Great Yarmouth's South Beach is to the south of Wellington Pier. The wide sandy beach with its grassy sand dunes is ideal for families who want a quieter stretch of beach while still being close to all of the attractions and amenities.

Caister North Beach


Caister on Sea's North Beach near Great Yarmouth has a long concrete esplanade and sand dunes leading to a wide sandy, golden beach.

Hemsby Beach


Hemsby Beach, near Great Yarmouth is a lively village resort with shops, amusements, attractions and cafes. The stunning golden, wide sandy beach with its grassy sand dunes makes this a popular choice with visitors.

California Beach

California Beach near Great Yarmouth is a lovely, wide, sand and shingle beach at the bottom of low sandy cliffs, merging with Scratby Beach. Peaceful and picturesque part of the coastline accessed via steep steps.

Caister South Beach


Caister's South Beach near Great Yarmouth starts from behind Caister's Independent Lifeboat Station. Wide dunes lead down to a glorious, golden, sandy beach.

Places to go in Great Yarmouth

Whether you're staying in Great Yarmouth, Caister-on-Sea, Gorleston-on-Sea, Clippesby, Hemsby, Burgh Castle, Hopton-on-Sea or anywhere in between, there's loads of places to go and things to do.

In Great Yarmouth itself, with Britannia Pier to the north and Wellington Pier to the south, Central Beach stretches along the Golden Mile of seafront amusements, entertainment and attractions with plenty of restaurants and cafés, making it one of the best places to visit. Gorleston-on-Sea with its huge bay, new children's Splash Pad and yacht pond is a firm family favourite beach along with the spacious beach at Hemsby Hole.

Escape inland for wide open skies, Norfolk countryside, quaint Norfolk villages and the famous Norfolk Broads where day boats, canoes and stand up paddleboards can be hired. The nearest place to hire a day boat in the borough is in Martham or St. Olaves. Rollesby, Ormesby and Filby surround the famous, tranquil Trinity Broads with some fabulous walks and great places to eat and admire the view where rowing boats can also be hired.

We've also got some great open spaces and parks, with nautically themed playgrounds for the kids to tear around.
