Explore something new

Great Yarmouth is rich in fascinating heritage and stunning nature which is brilliantly showcased at various places around the borough.

Steeped in heritage, Great Yarmouth has something to uncover round every corner. Seaside holidays are thought to have started in Great Yarmouth in the mid eighteenth century. South Quay was a hub of activity back in the tenth century when Great Yarmouth was a herring fishing settlement. Herrings were transported along the rows in specially made troll carts from the river to the town centre.

Fast forward to today and you'll find clues to Great Yarmouth's history at our town wall which is the second most complete medieval wall in the country, learn in one of four museums situated around the town centre and feel the history of our maritime roots come to life in the annual Maritime Festival.

Spot the elusive Swallowtail Butterfly, a shy Otter or one of many birds such as the common tern, bittern and marsh harrier. All can be seen on Martham Broad where you can also hire stand up baddle boards and canoes to explore the water.

With such beautiful views and fantastic wildlife to discover, take yourself off for a peaceful walk or genteel boat ride on the Norfolk Broads.

Have you been before, seen it all and looking for something different? Experience Great Yarmouth and get up close to all we have to offer.
