Great Place Scheme and Making Waves Together

The Making Waves Together programme has been made possible due to the Great Place Scheme, which is designed to enable arts, cultural, heritage and community groups to make a step-change in how they work together and put these areas at the heart of the community.

It also encourages working with other organisations from different sectors in order that arts, culture and heritage contribute more to the meeting of local social and economic objectives.

Great Places and Making Waves Together are funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Arts Council England and supported by Historic England.

Making Waves Together

Making Waves Together is led by Great Yarmouth Borough Council and Waveney District Council and sees communities and groups in both towns working together building cultural partnerships, engaging new audiences and putting arts, culture and heritage at the heart of the local vision.

While the two towns have so much in common, sharing connected maritime histories, similar socio-economic stories and a rapidly growing offshore renewable sector, they often do not work together and this includes taking their own cultural path.

The Making Waves Together programme ties Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft towns together through the delivery of a broad range of cultural activities, allowing people to get involved either as a participant or audience member. It also increases cultural education for children and young people to inspire a strong sense of place and local pride.

The programme activities cover the following areas:

• Cultural animation
• Making and producing culture
• Cultural education
• Cultural capacity building
