First Light Festival

First Light Festival

24 Hours to Remember

The inaugural First Light Festival took over Lowestoft’s sunny South Beach, gardens and promenades on the 22nd and 23rd June for 24 hours of music, dance, film, talks, visual arts, sports, workshops, eating and drinking.

Created by FlipSide and Hemingway Design, the festival was designed to celebrate the first light of midsummer’s weekend at Britain’s most easterly point.

The weather was perfect as locals and visitors from all over the country turned out in the tens of thousands to enjoy over 100 free events and activities. The feedback following the festival has been phenomenal, with an average score of 9.4 out of 10 for the experience overall and many people commenting on the inclusive, community feel, the diverse and ‘amazing’ line up and its positive impact for the town.

Big thanks to our Making Waves Together partners for their brilliant and invaluable contributions. From awe inspiring structures exploring coastal environment and resources, to wild beach arts workshops and storytelling for children to Dance Like Beyonce, everyone embraced the spirit (and hours!) of First Light to create a truly unique and brilliant event for Lowestoft.
