FlipSide is a Registered Charity, with its aims to produce the vibrant FlipSide Festivals and a growing calendar of outreach schools and community literature, music and arts events, opening a window onto a world of new cultural experiences.

FlipSide's outreach work has gone from strength to strength, we sit on the board of the Lowestoft Cultural Education Partnership and the Great Yarmouth Cultural Education Partnership, and we're part of a consortium of arts organisations working on a new cultural strategy for Lowestoft.

Our work in Lowestoft led to us producing a brand-new arts festival, First Light Festival in collaboration with Hemingway Design.

Wind Power Project

Drawing inspiration from seaside environments to draw together heritage, science and engineering, creative writing, and design through work of professional artists working with primary school children across both towns.

Watertight Words was delivered in 2018 in partnership with local primary schools in Lowestoft and local people through community workshops in through the town. The project focused on the location of Lowestoft and its relationship with the sea linking it to the Lowestoft Flood Risk Management Project which is currently in place to secure a safe future for the area.

The WindPower project looked to the past and the renewable energy future of wind farms, and through models, kinetic art and sculpture, explored the science and technology of wind forces.
Working in partnership with nationally acclaimed sculptor David Watkinson, FlipSide invited all school pupils to take part in a major sharing event at St George's Theatre.

Two temporary and one permanent public art commissions have been installed in Lowestoft's Town Hall building and at Venetian Waterways Great Yarmouth as a result of the projects.

One of the key developments that has occurred while Making Waves Together has been running, is the development and delivery of First Light Festival created jointly by Wayne Hemingway Design and FlipSide UK. The purpose was to reinvigorate the town with a significant cultural festival to highlight Lowestoft as a destination and as raise its profile. By celebrating the fact that Lowestoft is geographically the most easterly point of the UK and sees the first sunrise each day, the festival has created a new focus for the story of Lowestoft. Through attracting nationally recognised musicians and cultural organisations to provide activities and performances, alongside home-grown talent, it has successfully attracted new audiences to the town, while strengthening the cultural base and residents’ confidence in engaging with culture.
