Entertainment & Free Children's activities at Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival

As well as non-stop shanty music from a wide range of bands, the Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival has a variety of street theatre, costumed characters and performances of all sorts to keep you entertained. We've got the kids covered too with plenty of free activities and crafts.

Children's Craft Marquee

Children's Craft Marquee

Let those imaginations run wild as the kids get crafty in our marquee.

Join in and make your own ocean life creative colouring decoration of a turtle, dolphin or lobster. Join the pirate crew by colouring in a pirate mask or scratch your own design into a seaside decoration.

Inner State

Inner State

Always ' inner state' (pun absolutely intended) watch out for Christine Bissell and Andy Andrews aboard their wacky promenading boat up and down South Quay.

Look out for them on stage too for their costumed shanty-sining performances. See the souvenir guide for performance times.

Horatio and friends

Meet Lofty, Horatio and Mrs H

Come along and meet our larger than life festival mascot, Horatio Herring who arrived in Great Yarmouth in an unmarked fishing trawler in 2003 and offered his services. He was joined in 2009 by his beautiful bride, Mrs H.

Their great friend, Lofty the Lighthouse, is a great festival favourite also - perfect for a selfie if you see them strolling up and down the quay.

Admiral Lord Nelson

Admiral Lord Nelson

Meet our very own Admiral Lord Nelson, Britain's greatest naval hero who frequently embarked and landed here in Great Yarmouth, often accompanied by one of his lady friends.

You can find out all about his love, life and scandal in the nearby Nelson Museum, just left out of the middle gate.

Punch and Judy

Punch and Judy

"That's the way to do it!"

When you're at the seaside, Punch and Judy for the kids is a must, and even if you're a big kid, it's a great way to spend half an hour, watching a timeless Punch and Judy performance.

At 10am sharp Wrentham Brass Band will treat festival-goers to a stirring performance of varied maritime pieces, perfect to sit back and relax to in the Sunday morning sunshine. It's one of our favourite ways to start the day.

Norfolk Wildlife Trust

Norfolk Wildlife Trust

You can help show your support, to protect our seas by colouring a marine postcard to send to number 10.

Come and visit the RSPB – 3 marquees packed with things to do .

Have a go in the Lucky Dip or make a bird friend to take home and learn more about marine creatures and the Little Tern.

Broads National Park

Thurne Mill on the Norfolk Broads

Visit our stand and create a boat and make your own badge.

Great entertainment at the Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival

Find Natural England at the festival to find out about the damage caused by marine litter and the devastating effects it has on marine wildlife. They wil also be hosting a talk, Turning the Tide on Marine Litter in the Town Hall Council Chamber at 11am and 2pm about plastics in our oceans.

Look out for the Inner State Theatre Company who is permanently Inner State (pun intended!) who will be 'sailing' around the crowd on South Quay in unique style.

Meet our very own Admiral Lord Nelson as he strolls around the quayside with his good Lady Emma. Horatio Herring & Mrs H as well as their friend, Lofty the Lighthouse will be wandering the quayside, looking for all their chums to say hello to. They love being in selfies, so don't hesitate to ask their minder if you can pose for a picture with them. Why not get in touch with Horatio via Twitter?

If you enjoy a relaxing start to a Sunday, make sure you're quayside by 10am when Wrentham Brass Band will perform a variety of maritime-related music near the Main Stage.

'That's the way to do it!' Here at the Maritime Festival in Norfolk's premier seaside resort, we celebrate maritime traditions past and present, and Punch and Judy is no exception to this rule. Pull up a hay bale in the Children's Performance Area and enjoy timeless puppet wizardry.
