TV advert filming promotes resort’s year-round appeal

A television advert promoting Great Yarmouth as a resort for all seasons and all ages has been filmed at its beaches, attractions and eateries.The 30 second commercial will show a mother treating her daughter to a well-deserved break as they enjoy a variety of venues across the borough. They are featured walking on the beach and picnicking in the dunes, taking a boat ride on the Broads at Rollesby where they also have afternoon tea, having a flutter at the horse racing, having an art lesson at Great Yarmouth Potteries, and relaxing in a spa at Caister.

Gorleston seafront hosts top beach volleyball action

Top volleyball aces served up sporting action on the golden sands of Gorleston-on-Sea at the weekend. The resort hosted the opening round of the Volleyball England Beach Tour, with 46 competitors – some of them national players – putting their spiking and blocking skills to the test.

England pair and last year’s women’s champions Vicky Palmer and Jessica Grimson won the women’s competition with Christoph Datler and Mark Baechli taking the men’s crown.

New Great Yarmouth Air Show takes off as dates announced

Great Yarmouth, one of the UK’s top holiday resorts has announced the dates for its first ever air show. The Great Yarmouth Air Show will take place between 15 and 18 June 2017 and is ready for take-off to be one of the biggest events in East Anglia. Organisers aim to stage an all-action event which will attract up to 300,000 people and give a £10m-plus boost to the local economy in its debut year. It is being staged by Greater Yarmouth Tourism and Business Improvement Area Ltd as part of its drive to bring more visitors and spending power to the borough.

Regal Lady steams in to star in Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival

A popular pleasure boat is coming back home to Norfolk to star in The Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival this year. The Regal Lady will sail back into Great Yarmouth in September – to the harbour where she was built in the 1930s to provide sailing fun for holidaymakers. Visitors to the Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival will once again have a chance to ride on the Regal Lady during the weekend of seafaring fun and heritage.

Beach volleyball tour action heads to Gorleston sands

The all-action summer sport of Beach Volleyball returns to the sands of Norfolk this month as Gorleston-on-Sea beach becomes the battleground for top teams when the Volleyball England Beach Tour heads to the resort.The tour has visited the Great Yarmouth area for the past 12 years, providing holidaymakers and locals with a chance to get close to the stars. Two-person teams from across the country, including some international players, will compete in first of five rounds as the tour visits a handful of iconic seaside locations.

Plea to give Elephant Man a decent burial

Great granny Valerie Howkins is calling for the bones of the famous Elephant Man to be given a decent burial because of a poignant family connection. The 83-year-old's heartfelt plea comes as she makes progress in her long-running battle to clear the name of her grandfather who managed the grossly disfigured Victorian celebrity Joseph Merrick. Now the Great Yarmouth museum owner, whose connections with the tragic figure are showcased in one of the displays, wants the authorities to bury Merrick's bones where they belong, back in the city of Leicester where he was born.
