Live entertainment

Shows come in all shapes and sizes in Great Yarmouth, from thrilling performances at the Hippodrome circus, to comedy, musicals and performances in a choice of three theatres.

Circus spectaculars at the historic Hippodrome, designed by RS Cockrill, usually take place at Easter, over summer, during the October half term holiday and at Christmas. This amazing art nouveau building with excellent acoustics also plays host to a number of travelling shows throughout the year, including plays put on as part of the Norfolk and Norwich Festival in May, the Chinese State Circus and sometimes full philharmonic concert orchestras.

The Drill House is home to Seachange Arts and is located in the heart of Great Yarmouth's heritage quarter. Dedicated to circus and street arts creation and training, they also host a variety of shows, workshops and craft events.

Shows ranging from comedy to musicals, pantomimes and plays , magicians and mystics can be seen in Britannia Pier Theatre, Gorleston Pavilion and St. George’s Theatre. Well known as one of Great Yarmouth’s important landmarks at the end of the traditional wooden pier, Britannia Theatre hosts shows and big names such as Jimmy Carr, Jim Davidson and Joe Pasquale from May to the end of September. St. George’s Theatre and Gorleston Pavilion have shows all year round, with musicals, pantomimes and comedy a regular feature on both programmes.

Many local hotels and pubs have live music at weekends and in the holidays and live music nights at the racecourse in high summer are a real treat.

For all the latest films, Gorleston Palace Cinema situated in Gorleston high street is open all year round, showing all the latest Hollywood blockbusters.

Live shanty folk music is a huge feature of the Maritime Festival in September with great bands and groups playing live on three stages along historic South Quay. Live entertainment takes on a completely different edge at the Out There Festival also in September, when acrobatics, comedy and circus entertainment take to the streets.
